With ‘Christians’ Like These, Who Needs Demons?
From Matthew’s opening “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ …” all the way through John’s closing “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen,” where might you find the smallest shred of support for ”Christians” like Jeremiah Wright or John Hagee?
Preaching hate and divison, scorn and contempt, such as these would have us believe that they reflect the Prince of Peace, who loved us all. If Mr. Wright wants to shoot off his yap about his mad theories and the hatred that infects his own heart, let him do so as an individual; if John Hagee wants to spew his venom and mad anger and poisonous views, let him do so an individual.
But to have these mopes somehow representing the Christian message as “pastors” and “ministers” certainly insults the ministry, actual Christians and, nearly, the message and its messenger.
It is a wise business to keep religion out of politics and politics out of religion.

Hi Denis,
Well, I agree that Rev. Wright should have kept quiet for the greater good but I disagree with you as to what he said. In my humble opinion he spoke nothing but the truth. All you need to do is look at our history from when we unleashed genocide upon the native Americans, to our evils in South and Central America, to our present calamities in the middle east. In the name of who or what was given as the justification of our imperialism? It was for the money and nothing else. I still cannot understand why we disagree on such an essential point. I believe Rev. Wright was attempting to bring out the hidden truth that you don’t read about in any history books or even the newspapers. The chickens have indeed come home to roost along with a well planned dismantling of our basic rights, freedoms and entire economic system, all for the benefit of a few hundred thousand of the filthy rich. We have seen what can happen when unrestricted capitalism has the run of the place. As soon as someone speaks out against it like Martin Luther King Jr. began to do, they are either murdered or labeled as kooks. Too bad speaking truth to power is a non-starter especially in an election year. But it is what it is.

Hi Greg,
Not a bad point but it isn’t my point that it speaks to. My point is the hypocrisy of a Wright or McCain’s anticatholic homophobe using the Christian trappings to deliver quite un-Christian sentiments.
If they were a pair of jamokes off the street corner there views would be welcome and ready for debate but they proclaim themselves as Christian leaders and then preach the precise opposite of the message they say is their own, well, that’s worth a note.
I’m not guessing either of us’d plead second place in lamenting the historical blunders done around here. Myself i think you’re kind and generous to Wright’s intention and his hate America attitudes and that’s yours and mine to talk about. But when this guy says that the US government inflicts AIDS on people he’s off the reservation. That’s not speaking the truth to anyone. That’s crazy talk.
But that’s not even my point. Crazy talk has its place but when its legitimtized by religion then people should object to that. I’m pretty much on record on my views about American power; what i’m offering here is the abuse of the faith by hypocrites.

Crazy’s the wrong diagnosis. Look up Narcissistic Personality Disorder in the psychiatry bible ( DSM-IV ) and you’ll see Wright’s picture right over there in the margin.
Personality disorder is another way of saying ” jerk. ” Crazy folks can get on some meds. There ain’t no cure for what this guy has. Would that the news guys would ignore him. But that isn’t going to happen soon.

Hi Denis,
Thanks for your response.
Was it right for the Pope to look the other way while millions of Jews were being killed?
Hey, I heard from a Courant photographer last week that not only does the new owner of the Tribune want the reporters to sell more papers by sensationaizing, but they are asking the journalists “Why don’t you drop off some papers on your way home?” (I guess there is a new suppliment out or something.)
Hey, now that you are out of there you can go to some of our functions! We had about 180 at RAW last night!
See you, Greg

Oh, And one more thing. There is substantial evidence that Lyme disease may have started on Plum Island when the sea birds carried infected ticks across the sound. I don’t know if you have investigated all of the biological research labs across the country, even in greater Boston, but is it a far stretch that AIDS may have been developed by the military?
I’ll tellin ya, follow the money and look to the dark side for your answers!
